Mama
Mama turned 55 last month, slowly inching towards her twilight years. I wonder how many more years we have left together...Anyway, mother's day is coming at the end of the week, not that we ever really celebrated, because truly for my mum her mother's day is our birthdays. Especially my birthday since I was the first living nightmare to pop out, gosh I was probably the one who gave her the worst migraines. I'm amazed she didn't put me up for adoption. That's why she's my Mama and I love her for that and also for these:
Happy mother's day, Mama. I love you.
P.S. I wanted to post her picture here from her younger days, she was quite the hottie. But the old photo albums are in boxes and I couldn't find it!
- Her crazy laugh. She does not laugh like a normal human being, it's a cross between a hyena and someone who is completely unabashedly ecstatic. And it's not your usual loud HAHAHAHAHA, it's actually frickin melodious it's HA HA HAAAA HAAAAA.
- She screams in cinemas during horror / thriller movies. Loudly. Even at the parts when you shouldn't be screaming. I haven't seen a movie at the cinema with her for ages, but my sister still does and now she has learned to close her entire face for half the movie so she doesn't scream at the wrong time.
- She gave me the one of the best advice ever: If you want something, get it yourself don't expect a man to buy it for you (or something to that effect).
- She could afford to live luxuriously and get herself expensive pretty things just because she could afford it, but no, all the moolah goes for the kids and the family.
- I suck at Maths. When I was 12, she actually quit her job to tutor me math, and I got an A (first and last time unfortunately since she went back to work soonafter).
- She paid for my honeymoon across 3 states in Eastern Australia. That was definitely the top of the list of the best holiday my hubby and I ever had together.
- Speaking of Australia, after I fucked up my very expensive pre-university course at RMIT University in Melbourne; she didn't throw me out and make me pay for continuing my higher education. She still gave me another chance, albeit somewhere much closer to home where she can keep an eye on me. And for that I'm forever grateful.
- She took care of my wedding preparations while I was working in another country. My wedding was held in Malaysia so for a lot of the preparations I couldn't be available. She even went to Bali to get the lace for my wedding dress. Imagine if I had to do it myself...um, I can't imagine!
Happy mother's day, Mama. I love you.
