I dream of the day trashy pop music dies

Late last year my CD changer ate some of my CDs (an original Portishead CD, and ummm various mix CDs). It swallowed ten CDs and refused to puke it out after much digging and shouting and almost crying (me) and digging and sighing and nagging (my husband).

The hubster finally decided to take it to the car audio repair shop, where it sat among many of its kind, for a whopping 5 (or was it 6) months untouched and bloated with my CDs. Recently it was returned to me, sans freed CDs because they were still stuffed inside it.

I hate this. You wanna know why? Because this meant that I have to listen to stupid ass pop music every single fucking day, and everytime my kinda song comes out (Hitz FM do play Muse songs in the evening and once a while BFM took a break from all the yapping and play decent rock tracks, albeit old tracks) I frickin hyperventilate because yeah, it doesn't come out that often.

I long for the day when I can switch on the radio and not retch at the sounds of Rihanna (she may be hot but she sounds like a goat), blindly tapping tapping at the key to change the station because the first notes from that Justin Bieber song, the first notes from that blond chick who sings country she's a crossover to pop fuuuck me I can't remember her name...Taylor Swift, yes!, the first notes from some dumbass Akon song (or any other dude with that annoying whinnying voice) just came on. I long for the day when I don't spend half my time driving to work and driving home from work changing the fucking stations the whole time.

Wouldn't it be nice if say, I'm stressful after work and voila, Hitz FM plays a Mars Volta song, or a Muse song. Then at ad break I change to BFM and they surprise me with a song from Refused or At the Drive-In (defunct bands but hey, don't BFM play lots of old stuff). Then once a while they slip in Frank Zappa or Mr Bungle. In the mornings they maybe play something less heavy, maybe something from Feist or Yeah Yeah Yeah or The Shins.

That would be a really really pleasant day indeed. All the shit that happens outside, like at work and stuff, disappears immediately.

But no, the powers that be at radio stations and music publishing companies have decided that shitty music is the best music to play. But hey, to each their own they say. But c'mon man, just because it's popular in America doesn't mean it has to be a hit music here? Plus, the Americans have so many frickin choices. That's one thing lacking with the radio here - choices. Not only so few English based radio stations that play mostly music - most play the same old shit. The shit that is pop music. The stink that is The Gaga, The Rihanna, The Britney, The Bieber, The Boybands, The Black Eyed Peas.

(The fact that I know all these names and what their music sounds like makes me wanna shoot myself).

I wanna propose to AMP Radio to create an English language radio station that plays rock & indie music. You think that will fly? I think they'll tell me to go fly kite. But humour me for a minute, it's my dream after all. This station plays rock & indie music ONLY from everywhere and Malaysia. But it has to play good stuff, not rock kapak ballads or frickin Simple Plan. And Michael Learns to Rock is banned.

What's the definition of good stuff? This is where I come in and select the music. What a life, selecting MY kinda music to share with the rest of Malaysia, most of whom I suppose, don't dig my kinda music.

But really, I do believe that the radio stations have to educate people in these types of music. If you keep playing Gaga, people will get it in their heads and want Gaga. If you keep playing Stereophonics, people will want Stereophonics. Trust me, I know. It's the power of repetition. It's a brainwashing mindfuck. It's evil, yes, but it works.

Even if nobody requests it at first keep playing and playing, they will eventually LIKE IT. They will want to hear it all the time until they are sick of it, yet when they hear it again after a long time they will feel that they missed it. And thus, we will have created a new pop music.

And The Bieber and all his shitty compatriots of current pop dirt can be deservedly relegated to the AM channels that disturbed little 12 year olds can listen to and pretend they are so edgy because they're not listening to pop music. Yes, the new pop music that we created which doesn't suck.

And the world will be right again.
