Mana boleh? Malaysia boleh.

I just threw a semi-bitchfit, being all righteous and indignant because the fucking ad agencies and the "esteemed" clients don't believe in paying loading fees for the additional year of usage. They only ask for talents fees. Lucky bitches them talents. They get paid because they can sue and they don't need to kiss anyone's ass.

I thought Malaysia is more forward thinking than Indonesia (where I use to work) where usage rights are a bit of a grey area. I don't know how it is now in Indonesia, but I'm pretty sure they've moved forward. Hell, last I heard before I left they were starting unions and all for the suppliers of the advertising industry.

Here? I'm pretty sure the idea have been thought up once a while by an idealist working in the industry not yet crushed by the reality of the situation.

I mean, this notgettingpaidforyourwork probably applies only to suppliers of say, photography. For TVCs and audio they probably get paid for an additional year of usage. So it's not all bad, it's just that the clients and agencies are selective.

And they are selective because these stupid studios stand back and let them do it. For years and years, probably even before I was born. So now the only thing that changed is the technology, everything is digital but the mentality is still stuck somewhere in the 60s. But I don't know how it was, for all you know the people back then are probably more progressive in terms of usage rights than now.

Maybe now because of the various competitors, studios will do just about anything that the client wants. Even though it is unethical and their rights are violated. Just kiss ass as long as you don't have to kiss the floor.

Whenever you bring it up, there's resistance and annoyance from your client. "How come I was told that usually we don't have to pay for additional year of usage for photography?" Huh. Who told you la? Sounds dodgy only. These people never heard of intellectual property issit?

Unless it's stated in the cost that it's a total buyout, then obviously you need to pay la. Omaigoddddd!!!

I hope this unfair system will be changed while I'm still working in this industry. It's a bit tough when people have that kiss-ass mentality and when they don't unite. Wouldn't it be nice if all the studios have the same idea?
