My one week
Received two angpows from the bosses this year. No bonuses given out this year either, but it's ok. A little something is always good.
Office was closed for the whole of last week. Spent the first few days of the holidays with my quarter, day and night. Guess what we did?
We went to malls. Yes for godssakes we became mallrats. From Saturday all the way to Tuesday.
Was planning to chill by the pool at home, since CNY brings about glorious sunny weather, but there were too many kids living there who also had the same idea.
I know it is terrible to think so but I don't want to get in the pool if there are kids around. It always feel like you are swimming in remnants of their piss mixed with all that chlorine.
Almost had a visitor from a problematic marriage who wanted to stay over for a week or two as a trial separation from his spouse. But that didn't happen, thank God. I hope they worked it out, or are in the process of working it out. Sad if they don't.
Also sad if we'd have to clean the radioactive owner's room just for that occasion. Wonder what mutant creatures live in there.
On Wednesday it was back to work for most people. Forced myself to sleep in until I was awoken by a client's phonecall. Holiday over.
Had to sit in front of the computer from Wednesday to Friday, doing up decks, replying emails, harassing suppliers (who are on their CNY holidays, mind you). Continued with a bit of this on Saturday and Sunday. Lovely!
Spent the time not working reading Cloud Atlas and tweeting. Even spewing politics. It's disgusting (the politics, not the Cloud Atlas). Planned to finish it before Sunday but got distracted with work, and other things.
Such a brilliantly written book. Was difficult to start, but once Robert Frobisher enters the picture, it was an easy, wonderful read. I shall not say more, have only read up til Letters From Zedelghem.
Yes, that is not much to judge the book as brilliant. But usually I am right. And everyone who has read it said it was amazing.
Like many free one week breaks given by the company, spent it really doing nothing exciting. Such given leave is hard to come across, but maybe next year, maybe 2014 will be different. Maybe I will spend it unproductively, which is what holidays are for. Right?
